Shelley, thank you! <3 I'm so sorry you've been hurt. Gossip can be more damaging than we realize. I'm glad you found this post to be helpful.

As a Deacon’s wife, a Christian author and one who has been hurt by a family member and her friend, in church, I am sadly more cautious than ever. But your words of putting a stop to gossip is most helpful! I know what Scripture says about it, however it’s so good to know you are reaching out to others on both sides of the fence, since leaders can help the offending ones to see their actions through advice on these choice reactions of yours that you have shared. Praising Jesus for every positive that counteracts a negative. 😀

Jean, I am so glad you found this post helpful. Praying the Lord will use it to help your women recognize and resist the temptation to gossip.

I’m a new facilitator of our ladies connect group at my church. We have members who attend every week, some who come off and on, and also visitors, some of whom join us permanently. I haven’t seen or heard of any infringement of our rule “what’s said in the group stays in the group,” but I think perhaps we sometimes share more specifics than we need to. I’m going use your points in a short Code of Conduct (thanks for the reminder to keep it short) and hand it out to the members, and have it available for drop-ins and new members.
Thanks so much!

Oh, Gaye… it is hard for some to acknowledge that gossip is a sin. Praying God will open her eyes… 🙁

This is very much a problem among some of the ladies and my pastor/husband has addressed this subject many times. However, there is a lady who is known to gossip excessively, but she will laugh and say, “I’m just nosy.” I have begun to walk away when I hear her begin to gossip/be “nosy.” Gossip is so hurtful to others and the tongue can do much damage, intentional or unintentional. I just wish this lady could see her problem and deal with it.
