Carrie, thank you for your comments. A good study Bible can be so helpful! I love that you’ve allowed the Lord to set your pace!

Then I felt guilty thinking “why can other people do this and I can’t”? For me this just didn’t work but when I got into a Women’s Bible Study group my life changed! I was able to slow down and soak it in. I love the Word of God and am thankful God showed me the way “for me” to study it.

Its funny how we implement theses truths when it comes to food but forget it when it comes to the word. Yes, we must take it slow, digest it, surrender to it and allow it to nourish our soul. The Lord will apply it to the areas of our lives where we need encouragement. Also, one of the means of grace he uses is other believers. So eventually, everything we learn, we are called to pass on to others.

I read from a trusted study Bible. First I read the passage and then its notes. Most days, I read the New Testament in the morning and the Old Testament in the evening. I’ve been doing this for almost 3 years and am almost finished. I can’t believe how much I’ve learned about our Lord and how to follow Him better.

I’ve been using the MacArthur Study Bible NKJV. It has a 1 year chart in the back that I use, but I ignore the dates and number of verses, but it helps me keep track if I lose my bookmarks. Pastor MacArthur includes many insights like the example your pastor gave with the angels and the shepherds.
