Thanks, Niki! I always appreciate your insight. 🙂 Thanks for your comments. And while I do believe the Holy Spirit provides (maybe not the best word) discernment to all of us, I think some people are more sensitive and sometimes we have blindspots. Sometimes I’m just not confident and need someone else to say, “yes, you’re right.” 😉

1. Not everything labeled Christian is necessarily Christian. Other religions have tenants or stories similar to ours in Christianity but we don’t label them Christian. I feel the same with books or movies, and as a Christian I would never write a story about a book of the Bible.

2. There are plenty of scripture on making sure we not be deceived. Which speaks to discernment.

3.Discernment is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit- can just anyone be discerning? I don’t know the answer to this, but I feel the answer is no-I believe you did cover this partly by saying you have go to people for sticky situations like this.

These are my thoughts on Redeeming Love, I don’t plan to see this movie. I believe it is a distortion of the story of Gomer and Hosea- which also misses the mark on or doesn’t seem to foreshadow God and His relationship with Israel. I prefer the true biblical prophecy behind the book of Hosea. Plus from what you and other reviewers have said it borders on the pornographic.

4. Emotions- spot on! We have exchanged emails on this before. We must look at things with spiritual eyes and not always with emotion. Emotion isn’t altogether bad, but it can be, and often is a tools the evil one uses to target us.

As always I value your blog/podcast and the advice you give.

God bless!

Jewel, thank you so much for your comments. <3 Thank you for reminding us that many women have not been taught about discernment as a discipline of the Christian life. And thank you for the book recommendation. I just ordered it and look forward to checking it out!

Just read blog on Discipleship and Discernment and all the supporting documentation.

Thank you for explaining so clearly how both of the “Dis’s” work together to strengthen our walk in CHRIST! Read blog 2 times. First, with ravenous hunger for the message; then, slowly, savoring each point for. the MEANING of the message! I know I’ll return to fill myself on this lesson again and again in preparation for the Grace
to serve it to others.

Studying your book Rethinking Womens Ministry and companion workbook; praying for GOD to guide me to partners to put forth ministry that serves women in our community and that honors and glorifies HIM. I thank GOD for you Cyndee, not only for What you do, also for How you do it! I am learning from you..

May HE bless you richly,
rev louise

This is a great blog/podcast that hits on so many important factors! I think many Christian women lack discernment but have never been taught or considered discernment as one of the disciplines of the Christian life. A few years ago I took our church women through the book, Developing the Discipline of Spiritual Discernment, by Tim Challies and followed it up by giving them some real life scenarios to take home, evaluate according to Scripture and the discernment principles we learned, and come back prepared to explain their position. It was great practice for us and very eye opening.
