The Fellowship Idea: Comfort Food is the perfect event for January or any cold winter month.
January and the following winter months can be difficult for many of your women.
There are the widows that struggled through their first Christmas without their spouse.
The colder weather and lack of sunlight will send some of your women into a seasonal depression.
Many of your women will be just plain exhausted from the stress of managing difficult family relationships intensified by holiday visits.
You can provide all of your women with physical and spiritual comfort.
- Invite your women to bring their favorite comfort foods.
- Have one of your women to share how God has provided comfort through a difficult season.
- End with a movie that speaks to God’s comfort, such as Faith of Our Fathers.

So you’re probably wondering why I’m recommending Faith of Our Fathers. I know, it’s not a chick-flick and it’s about the Vietnam War. (Side note: Some of your women will be thrilled it’s not a chick-flick!)
Here’s the movie’s synopsis.
With the Vietnam War raging in 1969, two young fathers report for duty. A man of great faith and a doubtful cynic. A quarter-century later, their sons, Wayne and John Paul, meet as strangers.
Guided by handwritten letters from their fathers from the battlefield, they embark on an unforgettable journey to The Wall—the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Along the way, they discover the devastation of war cannot break the love of a father for his son. FAITH OF OUR FATHERS: a story of fatherhood; a journey of brotherhood.
Near the beginning of the film, the character of Stephen George is questioned about reading his Bible on the battlefield in Vietnam and he says, “I’m just finding some comfort in a place that’s not really comfortable.”
Your women are in some uncomfortable places.
Difficult marriages.
Unimaginable heartbreak.
Strained relationships.
Challenging discipline issues.
Unwanted medical diagnosis. I could go on…
Faith of Our Fathers is about more than fatherhood. It’s about finding comfort in God alone.
I believe this movie will inspire and encourage your women to seek God’s comfort in difficult places.
You can get a glimpse of the video in the trailer below.
I’d love to hear what your women’s ministry does to offer comfort to the women in your church and community.

Our women’s group started life as an online facebook group. Most of the members have never met in person. This sounds like it would be a good first face-to-face get together.

How neat! So glad you all will be able to meet face-to-face! Hope your first meeting is a huge success!

I attend a Spanish/English church, which started as a Spanish church so our english side is a little on the small side. When there is fellowship it is usually in spanish. I am trying to increase the english side and this sounds just like the ticket. Quite a few Spanish women speak english so they would enjoy this too. Regardless of whether or not I win this Movie I feel it would be worth buying myself and using your idea for a women’s fellowship. Thanks for the great idea. Keep them coming and God bless.

Our church is still growing, and this is a great idea for a fellowship event as well as an outreach to women who have visited

We have quite a few introverted women in our church (which has a very small congregation) so it can be challenging to know how to best comfort them. Thank you for the giveaway.

I can’t tell you how much this website means to me. I am a relatively new pastors wife to a new congregation. Without education in religion. The church has spent years without a women’s group and it kind of fell on my lap to start one and I didn’t know which way to turn. Thanks to your website I have wonderful ideas and something to follow I truly appreciate it
