Choosing music for a Women’s Ministry event can be a daunting task.
Your team’s goal is to provide the most enjoyable worship experience that you can.
When choosing music for your women’s ministry events consider these things:
1. Choose a familiar song and a familiar tune. Women are going to be most comfortable singing the version of the song they hear on K-LOVE. Save the unfamiliar a Capella version for background music.
2. Worship music is either vertical or horizontal. You’re singing to God about God or about you and your relationship with Him. Neither is wrong. Just consider what best fits your purpose.
3. Don’t wear your women out at the beginning of your event. Three songs is usually the perfect number. Start with one upbeat song to get them warmed up and end with a song that will focus them and give them a sense of peace. I strongly suggest you not use more than 4 songs during any worship session.
4. The best way to introduce a new or unfamiliar song is to teach it to them. Have your worship leader sing it to them first. Have them echo the lines if it’s a short song. If it’s longer teach them to sing the chorus and have your worship team sing the verses.
5. Provide the words for every single song that you sing. Assume there are women in the room who have never been in church or that did not grow up singing the same songs.
An important note on providing words to music. Music and the words of the song are protected by copyright laws. Please contact your Worship Pastor to find out how your church handles the copying of music. Many churches purchase ccli licenses which grant them permission to copy the lyrics. One License is another site churches use. Hymns that are part of the public domain can be used without violating copyright laws.
From what I understand unless you have received permission from the musician, recording the performance of the songs is illegal. If you are recording your women’s ministry event, just record your speakers. Again, please seek the guidance of your pastoral staff.
Colossians 3:14-17 (ESV) instructs us “And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
May God bless you and your women as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs in preparation for God’s message.
